Programme for the term.....more (link not yet active)

This is a family activity aimed at pre-schoolers (1-5 years) with parental/carer supervision. The aim is to encourage physical activity and development through play, whilst having fun and burning off some energy!

The hour-long sessions are based around the Youth Sport Trust “Start to Play” scheme and focus on a different skill each week such as jumping, ball skills or movement. They are delivered through story telling, role-play and games. After a warm-up there is a structured section aimed at developing the week’s skill, then a light snack, followed by free play with equipment relevant to that skill.

Children are welcome to participate at different levels depending on their age, physical capability and their ability to concentrate and join in. The sessions are as much about having fun and interacting with other children and adults as they are about the activity!

Play in danger of becoming "lost art"? One in five parents say they have forgotten how to play with their children, according to a survey of 2,000 parents and 2,000 children. The State of Play, Back to Basics, a report by Professor Tanya Byron and commissioned by Disneyland Paris, concludes that play is in danger of becoming a "lost art" for British families. Professor Byron said "There are four key ingredients to a successful playtime between parents and children: education, inspiration, integration and communication...Parents need to step back and think back to how their own childhood games used these four pillars and how they can implement them now". Ten per cent of parents said they were confused by conflicting information available and this prevented them from playing with their children. (Guardian, 27 Aug 2010, p17)
